ODS tape copying involve creating a bit-for-bit copy from one media to a similar or different media in the same format without any analysis or editing.

ODS media transcribing allows data to be selectively edited, analyzed and/or reformatted onto any media or format. This includes selectively translating or duplicating any media to only transfer such things as traces, field files, common depth points, shotpoints or any other tabular or numerical information.

When copying, editing or transcribing, Ovation Data Services performs a full range of validation tests to substantiate the integrity of the data sets. These include making a QC plot of selected SEG-Y traces or files from the output media to ensure data validity. A line printout of all information processed is also included with the new output media sent to the client.

We also visually examine the physical input media to determine its condition. In addition, we perform a digital validation to match label and support information to digital information.

We know, for instance, how each media will handle variable size seismic and log data blocks when compared to standard media performance ratings. Geophysical data blocks tend to be much larger than the norm for other industries, so media may not reach the performance levels that are given by their manufactures. Because ODS understands such nuances, we are able to virtually eliminate surprises and difficulties.

Ovation Data Services had the ability to compact hundreds of thousands of 9-track tapes or other media in multiple formats down to a more manageable data set of high density media such as IBM 3590 cartridges, Quantum DLT cartridges or Sony DTF cassettes. Output formats can be in the industry standard SEG-Y or any other format you require. The results allow you to maintain just one system that works with all your data rather than keeping a multitude of different systems.

All output media is then accurately labeled so other people using the tape can easily obtain all the pertinent information they need. That save significant amounts of time and aggravation that is often caused by existing poorly labeled media.
